Lithuanian capital is one of the major transit routes to Kaliningrad. Vilnius Airport offers various flight connections across Europe as well as to Morocco, Egypt and Israel. Also international trains and buses are used by tourists to get there.
There are several ways to travel from Lithuania:
Train from Vilnius to Kaliningrad
Using Vilnius Train station you can board trains to Russia: Kaliningrad, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Sochi, etc. There are 5 different trains available. Schedule is quite complex, but you will find from one to three options for any date. Continue reading “Travel from Vilnius to Kaliningrad and back”

Svetlogorsk is one of the main seaside resorts in Kaliningrad region. We`ve got a question from UK about getting there by train. Let’s start our research!
Train stations in Kaliningrad
There are two stations in Kaliningrad where you can find the train to the seaside.
- Youzhny Vokzal – Южный вокзал – South Station – (note the official name: Kaliningrad Passajirskiy)
- Severnyi Vokzal – Северный вокзал – North Station
The first one is the main city station where you can find local trains, international ones and transit to “Main Russia” like Moscow, Saint Petersburg, etc. Also you will find a big Bus Station with local and international routes, as well as the airport shuttle.
I prefer to take a train to Svetlogorsk there since it’s the route starting point and you have better chances to find a free seat. Yes, there are no allocated seats with your ticket. But this area is of the tourist path and far from the city center.
Next station is Severnyi vokzal (North Station) is for local routes to the seaside only. It’s located right next to the main city square, so it’s on option too. But expect bigger crowds on sunny days especially on weekends.

One of the recent questions from one of the travelers was: “How to get from the airport to Kaliningrad?“.
First of all there is a shuttle bus that goes every 40 minutes. Check the timetable from KGD Airport below. The ticket price is 80 RUB, aprox. 1.3 EURO or so. Sounds perfect, isn’t it?
You can check the schedule for both directions at Khrabrovo Airport Official Site.
Second option is a taxi ride. Some taxi apps shows me the prices starting from 500 Rub or so to the city center. Also there are special information desks with taxi-agents that could help you to get the ride to the destination you require.
And annoying taxi drivers that are looking for customers on their own – least recommended but sill an option too. 🙂
Also you will find several Car Rental companies inside the Khrabrovo Airport Building.
And one more exclusive option! Kaliningrad Guide Blog would like make a limited offer for our readers: free airport transfer! Just let us know in the comments below or using the Contact Us form that you need help with getting to Kaliningrad or back to the Airport. The only requirement is to write later a short review on your stay in Kaliningrad. Share some tips and ideas that could be useful for those who will travel after you.
Have a good flight! And feel free to send your questions about visiting Kaliningrad.

Ok, Kaliningrad Guide Blog already posted an article on buses from Gdansk to Kaliningrad, but we see that some tourists are having difficulties when they plan arrival to the Gdansk Airport. Therefore, we will show you how to get from there to the city center where you will find the right buses.
Here is the best website for the Gdansk Public Transport information: trojmiasto.jakdojade.pl. It works in all major cities in Poland.
This service offers you the English interface, so you will be able to find Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, but you wind find a train station using English language, just type in Dworzec Glowny, which mean Main Station.
You will see that there are three available direct options: SKM, 210 bus and N3 night bus if you arrive very late. In addition, you will see options with connections, but usually it doesn’t save you a lot of time. Continue reading “How to get from Gdansk airport to Kaliningrad”

One of the basic things – TAXI. But what about English language? I’ve found a nice option for travelers. Taxi Maxim offers you an English web interface as well as reasonable prices for a ride in Kaliningrad taxi and the all region. You can see the final price during the ordering process. So you are safe from greedy taxi drivers that can ask for triple fare from the naive tourists at the railway, the bus stations or the airport. And you can pre-order a cab in the Settings menu as well.
It’s not a classic Taxi company, more like Uber style with private car owners. But I’ve heard about one guy that owns up to 50 cars with hired drivers. My family is using this service for a year and a half and don’t have any complaints so far.
I’ve just had called them and had a conversation with the call-center. They said that not all operators know English, but you still can give it a try and call them in the old fashioned way: +7 4012 999-666.
One more thing: Taxi Maxim offers apps for iPhone, Windows and Android.
p.s. Found one more Kaliningrad taxi company with English option on their website, but they use only Cyrillic alphabet in the address field. Not 100% English-friendly.
