While reading various travel forums about visiting Russia for the World Cup, I was impressed how adventurous football fans are. Some of them plan to travel across the oceans and follow their National Team for thousands of kilometers in the unknown country and culture. That gave me the idea to calculate longest and shortest possible travel routes for each team. It took me several hours to make the spreadsheet with all possible distances. Google Map used to calculate the distance between the Host Cities to travel by car.
Group Stage and the shortest trip
The final draw will take place in December, so we have only one team with known stadiums to play during the group stage. Hosts, Russian National Team will play in Moscow than in St. Petersburg and Samara. This will make 2481 km trip in total. Finally! There is an official confirmation from FIFA that ticket sale will start on 14 September. There will be several sales phases with different procedures. You will find some details here.

So far we have the following qualified teams: Russia as Host, Brazil, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Belgium.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Representation in Kaliningrad just issued the statement that 72-hour Russian visas for short stay in Kaliningrad are going to be canceled from January 1 2017. That was an experiment that was continued in 2016, but now they decided to stop it.
It was a popular way for the tourist to visit our region because it was possible to get that short-stay Russian visa right at the border for some extra fee and paper work.
So starting from the next year you will need to get a regular Russian Visa to visit Kaliningrad. That was the most popular option before.

The 2016 FIVB Volleyball matches will be held in Kaliningrad in June 2016. Russia women’s national team host Belgium, the Netherlands and Turkey in Kaliningrad in World Grand Prix Pool C1. And later men’s team is hosting Bulgaria, Poland and Serbia in the FIVB Volleyball World League Pool C1 first week matches.
The tickets are supposed to be sold at the venue: DS Yantarny. I don’t see any online options so far.
